Peter - Voices from the Street

Peter was born in Aalborg in 1986 and grew up with an unstable and often violent mother, as well as sexual abuse. He tells his own story - from a traumatic childhood to escalating alcohol abuse that began at high school parties and intensified during his engineering studies, until alcohol consumed his entire life.

Along the way, he has been admitted to psychiatric wards and residential treatment several times. His first residential treatment led to addiction to cocaine and heroin, and he was not diagnosed with bipolar disorder until he was 33 years old.

Today Peter is clean and sober, living a quiet life. He shares his story to offer insight into his world and to break down stigma around addiction and mental illness.
