Expansion of Odense Harbour/Lindø and new shipping channel - necessary for the green transition or ecological disaster for the fjord?

A debate on the planned expansion of Odense Harbour/Lindø and the establishment of a new shipping channel - and whether the project is a prerequisite for the green transition or will cause serious damage to Odense Fjord.

Three experts take the floor: Erik Kristensen is a professor of marine ecology at SDU with over 40 years of research into seabed biology. He has worked with eelgrass restoration and the laying of sand and stone reefs in Odense Fjord. Henrik Mørup-Petersen is a retired academic engineer with 50 years at Rambøll, Odense - including work on the Great Belt and Øresund connections - and has spent the last two decades on wetland projects and nature restoration. Magnus Gundersen Lihn is a nature advisor at the Danish Nature Conservation Association, where he handles the association's expert work on the harbour expansion case, which the association considers a matter of principle and national importance.

The discussion will address whether the need for expansion still exists now that the pace of offshore wind development is slowing. Other key questions include what happens when nearly 500,000 m³ of sludge from the excavation is spread in the fjord, what consequences this has for residents in Munkebo and the surrounding area, and for bird and animal life, and who ultimately pays for nature compensation.
