Martin P - Voices from the Street

Martin P spent 18 years behind bars, 24 years struggling with drug abuse, and 35 years in the criminal underworld. Today he is clean and crime-free for 20 and 3.5 years respectively - and this is the starting point for a tour through Sydhavn.

He tells of a turbulent childhood with eight placements in care, of starting drugs and crime at age 11, and of going straight to prison when he turned 16. He has visited Vestre Prison over 50 times. When he stopped using drugs, he only became better at burglary - crime was the hardest thing to leave behind.

Along the way, he also shares the poems he has written as a way to process his life. He promises that humor will not be lacking - the story is harsh, but the smile is there.
