ILK x KU.BE no. 7: Matt Choboter: Emergence Totem | Featuring Juniper Fuse + Figura Ensemble

Matt Choboter: Emergence Totem brings together JUNIPER FUSE and FIGURA Ensemble in an international, intergenerational, and interdisciplinary meeting. Drawing on panpsychist thinking, Choboter creates a shape-shifting musical universe that dissolves boundaries between composition and improvisation, tradition and innovation. The music does not seek comfort in familiar forms but embraces ambiguity, sensory diversity, and intuitive collective listening - tracing a shared consciousness through shimmering textures, ritual fire, and rhythmic interplay. The evening features the world premiere of Emergence Totem, composed by Matt Choboter.

Juniper Fuse Ensemble was formed in 2022, bringing together musicians across generations and backgrounds: saxophonist Lotte Anker, pianists Simon Toldam and Matt Choboter, and percussionists Matias Seibæk and Peter Bruun. Over the past year, the ensemble has collaborated with the Royal Danish Academy of Music and the University of Southern Denmark Academy of Music, and performed at PULSAR Festival, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Aarhus Jazz Festival, and ALICE.

FIGURA Ensemble has spent a quarter century in continuous development, exploring music's capacity to enrich and transform the lives of audiences of all ages. The ensemble's initiatives transcend genres and art forms, reflecting a high level of ambition.
