Henrik - Gadens Stemmer

Henrik is now in his 50s and works as a guide for Gadens Stemmer walking tours in Vejle. His story begins at age 14 on the streets - raised by his grandparents but thrown out when his grandmother died and a new woman entered the household.

From there he went to sea, and with help from Kolding Municipality he got an education and later work at Vejle Harbour. A shattered knee from a work accident put an end to it all. It marked the beginning of a long downward spiral, where first doctor-prescribed painkillers and later drugs from society's shadow side took control.

Since 2017, Henrik has been drug-free. Today he uses his energy to advocate for the homeless - as chairman of the national organization SAND and deputy chairman of Vejle Udsatteråd.
