Family and Friends Talk: Understanding Eating Disorders — Aalborg

This talk is for you if you are a family member, partner, sibling, or friend of someone with anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder (BED), or atypical eating disorder. The aim is to give you concrete knowledge about eating disorders and tools to support the affected person as best as possible.

The talk covers what may lie behind the development of an eating disorder, how the illness affects thoughts, behaviour and emotional life, and what signs to watch for. You will also gain insight into short and long-term consequences, and how to take care of yourself as a family member - not just the person you care for.

The speakers are Silke Fiil Visby, authorised psychologist and specialist in psychotherapy, and Inger Becker, nurse, psychotherapist and supervisor. Both work in Askovhus' treatment team in Aalborg and have many years of experience treating eating disorders.

Askovhus is a highly specialised organisation with over 30 years of experience in eating disorders. They are part of the NGO AskovFonden and have been designated as a VISO provider by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing in both the children and youth sector and the adult sector. Askovhus offers, among other things, outreach meal support and treatment for children, young people and adults with eating disorders and their families, highly specialised housing for adults, and nationwide counselling, supervision and training for professionals and those affected.
