Shahin Aakjær traveled to Iran, learned the language, and earned a master's degree in Middle Eastern studies before teaching languages at the Royal Danish Defence College. This evening's lecture draws on his personal background: his parents' meeting and separation, and the country that has since shaped his life.

His 2022 book "Verdensbarn" (World Child) explores the same themes: navigating between two cultures, growing up as a child of divorce in an adult world, and what love, revenge, and imaginary football tournaments can mean for a child caught in the middle.
