Intarsia - Tapestry Knitting with Colors and Motifs - Masterclass with Popknit — MESSE C, Fredericia, Fredericia

Masterclass in intarsia (colorwork knitting) with Popknit, one of Denmark's renowned knit designers specializing in pop-inspired colors and pastels. The ticket is valid only in combination with a day pass or festival pass to Kreative Dage - these can be purchased separately.

Intarsia is a technique for creating large color areas, patterns, and images in knitting without floats on the back. Instead of carrying the yarn on the back, you switch to a new bobbin for each color block, so the colors twist around each other at the transitions. The result is a smooth back without loose threads - and only one layer of knitting, just like single-color knitting. Each color area has its own small bobbin or "dunte", and the technique is knitted primarily back and forth on the needles.

The instruction covers: introduction to the technique, bobbin setup, intarsia knitting back and forth, use of jacquard, duplicate stitch as embroidery on the work, and creating your own charts. You need no prior experience with colorwork - the only requirement is that you can knit knit and purl stitches.

You will receive a workbook and must bring your own knitting needles and yarn in at least 4 colors with high contrast, preferably wool (e.g. Peruvian) on circular needles 4-6 mm. The masterclass is held during Kreative Dage on October 23-25, 2026 at MESSE C in Fredericia.
