Mendelssohn Paulus — Store Magleby Kirke, Dragør

Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's oratorio Paulus is one of the great works of the Romantic oratorio tradition. Its structure recalls Handel's Messiah, using biblical texts as its foundation, but Mendelssohn has also incorporated chorales in the spirit of Bach. Through choral, solo, and orchestral passages, the work traces Paul's dramatic life. Among the most celebrated movements are the choral sequence "Mache dich auf" followed by the imposing "Wachet auf!" - known in English as "Zion's Watchmen".

The concert at Store Magleby Church takes place on Sunday, 25 October at 15:00. The same programme is performed on Wednesday, 28 October at 19:30 in Helligaandskirken. Duration: 2 hours and 15 minutes including interval.

The soloists are Katinka Bohse Meyer (soprano), Gustav Wenzel Most (tenor), and Teit Kanstrup (bass). Copenhagen Cantata Choir and Orchestra are conducted by Torben H.S. Svendsen.

The concerts are supported by the Aage and Johanne Louis-Hansen Foundation, the A.P. Møller Foundation, the Augustinus Foundation, the Knud Højgaard Foundation, and the William Demant Foundation.
