Lecture at Lejre Museum: Lisbjerg - a newly discovered Viking Age burial ground — Lejre Museum | Kongerigets Vugge, Gammel Lejre

In summer 2025, Moesgaard Museum's excavation of a Viking Age burial ground at Lisbjerg north of Aarhus attracted attention in both Danish and international media. The burial ground lies close to an already known chieftain's farm and church, which already make Lisbjerg a significant Viking Age site. During the excavation, 30 inhumation graves were uncovered - including chamber graves and wagon-burial graves - and many of them contained well-preserved grave goods pointing to a social elite.

On Tuesday, 27 October 2026 at 19:00-21:00, archaeologist and excavation leader Liv Stidsing Reher-Langberg from Moesgaard Museum gives a lecture at Lejre Museum. She reviews the excavation process, the burial ground and individual graves, and takes a closer look at some of the most remarkable finds and Lisbjerg's possible role in the Viking Age landscape.

Doors open at 18:30 at the earliest. Tickets cost 90 DKK (+ booking fee) and are purchased on Billetto. The address is Lejre Museum, Orehøjvej 4B, 4320 Lejre.
