Founded in 1935 as Aarhus By-Orkester, the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra is the city's principal professional ensemble, with 66 full-time musicians based at the purpose-built Symphonic Hall in Musikhuset Aarhus. The hall's award-winning acoustics are widely regarded as among the finest in Denmark for symphonic music. Malko Competition winner Dmitry Matvienko has served as chief conductor since the 2024/25 season, and the orchestra maintains a permanent partnership with Den Jyske Opera while reaching over 10,000 schoolchildren annually through free concerts.
