Concert with Balslev, Øberg & la Cour
Three Funen musicians perform jazz-inspired interpretations of classic Danish hymns and folk songs, with audience participation and improvisation.
Povl Chr. Balslev is a Funen-based organist, pianist and composer who has served at Vor Frue Kirke in Svendborg since 2002. He has written more than 200 melodies for songs and hymns, and was included in the 2020 edition of the Danish folk high school songbook (Højskolesangbogen). Together with saxophonist Morten Øberg and trumpeter Mads la Cour, he forms the trio Balslev, Øberg & la Cour, which reinterprets the Danish song tradition through jazz improvisation.
Balslev participated in the Epiphany Evening at Vor Frue Church, Svendborg, in January 2026.
The trio Balslev, Øberg & la Cour performed a concert at Thurø Church in December 2025.
The trio released a CD with Carl Nielsen interpretations and celebrated it with a release concert, where among others Anne Vilain (cello) and Jan Schønemann (guitar) participated.
Balslev released the CD "Therefore our eye can rejoice" - 12 new interpretations of Carl Nielsen's songs - in the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth.
Balslev was included in the Folk High School Songbook in the 2020 edition.
