Charlotte Østergaard is a Danish textile artist, costume designer and artistic researcher working at the intersection of performing arts, material practice and co-creative processes. She has designed costumes for more than 75 productions - several award-winning - for companies including Danish Dance Theatre, Skånes Dansteater, Den Norske Ballett and Rambert Dance Company. In January 2025 she defended her PhD thesis "Crafting Material Bodies" at Malmö Theatre Academy, Lund University, and her works are held in the collections of Designmuseum Danmark and the National Gallery of Denmark.
Østergaard participates in the artistic research project 'The dramaturgy of things in performance' led by Christina Lindgren, Stockholm University of the Arts.
A new version of her ph.d. project Community Walk was presented at Metropolis Performing Landscapes in Copenhagen.
Østergaard participated in the exhibition 'Denne Nye Verden - predominantly textile' at Lundsgaard Gods in Kerteminde (5 April - 1 June 2025).
Charlotte Østergaard publicly defended her ph.d. dissertation 'Crafting Material Bodies' at Bryggeriteateret, Malmö Teaterhögskola, on 15 January 2025.
The ph.d. dissertation 'Crafting Material Bodies - exploring co-creative costume processes' was submitted to Malmö Teaterhögskola, Lund University, in December 2024 and has since been published on Research Catalogue.
