Det Danske Pigekor is a choral school based in Gentofte, north of Copenhagen, rooted in a children's choir founded by organist Søren Christian Vestergaard at Jægersborg Kirke in the late 1990s. Today the school encompasses four choirs - from beginners to the senior girls' choir - with 200-250 singers aged 6 to 22. The flagship girls' choir, directed by Clara Smedegaard, performs regularly at Det Kongelige Teater and in churches across Denmark. Chief conductor Pia Boysen has led the organisation since 2003 and accepted the Mette Madsens hæderslegat on the choir's behalf in 2022.
Det Danske Pigekor celebrated its 25th anniversary with a large concert, where the current girls' choir performed together with 40 former members under the direction of Clara Smedegaard and Pia Boysen.
Chief conductor Pia Boysen was named 'Best over 60' by Djøf in 2024 for her work in spreading musical joy among children and young people.
Ordrup Church ended its economic cooperation with the choir school in 2024, and from January 2027 Gentofte Provsti takes over as the overall foundation for the choir's activities.
Since 2024, Astrid Kastensson Navarro-Alonso has conducted the Junior Choir and is also responsible for the children's choirs' participation in performances at the Royal Theatre.
Det Danske Pigekor and chief conductor Pia Boysen received Mette Madsen's honorary grant of 75,000 kr. for the choir's contribution to living church and choral music in Denmark.
