About

Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium (DKDM), known in English as the Royal Danish Academy of Music, was founded in 1867 by composer Niels W. Gade and is Denmark's oldest and largest professional music institution. State-funded since 1949, it trains around 400 students at bachelor, master and soloist level in classical performance, composition, conducting and music education. Based at Rosenørns Allé in Frederiksberg, it hosts over 200 free concerts a year in its own concert hall and maintains close partnerships with leading conservatories in the US, Europe and China.

    Global Conservatoire celebrates its five-year anniversary with DKDM as host for the annual meeting under the title 'From Vision to Impact'.

    DKDM concluded the academic year with a summer concert, where rector Helene Gjerris gave a speech to this year's graduates.

    DKDM's Symphony Orchestra performed in spring 2026 including Mahler's 1st Symphony and a world premiere of Laura Bowler in collaboration with Copenhagen Phil and conductor Barbara Hannigan.

    DKDM published its strategy for the period 2025-2028, developed in collaboration with the entire institution through workshops and seminars.

  • 2024-08

    Helene Gjerris took office as new rector of DKDM on 1 August 2024, after having been professor and head of the vocal department since 2016.
