About

Joe Henderson (1937-2001) was an American tenor saxophonist from Lima, Ohio, whose career spanned four decades and ranged from hard bop and modal jazz to more experimental territory. His 1960s Blue Note recordings - including *Page One* (1963) and *Inner Urge* (1966) - are considered classics of the era, and a series of tribute albums for Verve in the 1990s brought him three Grammy Awards and long-overdue wider recognition.
