KOMBI is the solo project of São Paulo-based musician João Kombi, a veteran of Brazil's independent scene since the mid-1990s and guitarist/vocalist in the experimental grindcore duo Test. Under the KOMBI name he works with drone, noise and raw improvisation, layering distorted guitar, loops and synthesizers into dense, emotionally charged soundscapes. The project has appeared at festivals including Novas Frequências and Prague Microfestival, sharing stages with Carla Boregas and City of Caterpillar.
João Kombi performed KOMBI in a joint performance with Maristela Estrela at the opening of the sound art exhibition 'Escuta aqui!' at Paço das Artes in São Paulo as part of a special action from the Novas Frequências festival.
KOMBI conducted his first European tour, 'Alimento a Dor Eurotour 2025', which spanned nine countries over three weeks.
KOMBI released the album 'Alimento a Dor' on vinyl on 16 July 2025.
