Lido Pimienta
Colombian-Canadian artist Lido Pimienta explores afro-Caribbean music with decolonial force and beauty. She is GRAMMY-nominated.
Lido Pimienta is a Colombian-Canadian musician, singer, and multidisciplinary artist from Barranquilla, based in Toronto. She weaves Afro-Colombian and Wayuu traditions - cumbia, bullerengue - with electronic pop, and her work consistently addresses decolonization and Afro-Latin identity. Her 2016 album "La Papessa" won the Polaris Music Prize, and "Miss Colombia" (2020) earned Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations. In 2021 she became the first Colombian to compose a commissioned score for the New York City Ballet, and in 2025 she released the orchestral album "La Belleza", recorded with the 60-piece Medellín Philharmonic.
Lido Pimienta released the album "Caribenya" on July 17, 2026 via ANTI- Records - a dancefloor album with cumbia, dembow and ambient pop, produced with Nelly Furtado and Turbo Sonidero among others.
In May 2026, Pimienta announced "Caribenya" as a counterpart to "La Belleza" - described as a "spiritual successor" to "Miss Colombia" from 2020.
The orchestrated album "La Belleza", recorded with Owen Pallett and the Medellín Philharmonic, was released on May 16, 2025 via ANTI- Records.
On April 9, 2025, Pimienta announced "La Belleza" and shared the first single "Mango".
In October 2021, Pimienta premiered her commissioned work "Sky to Hold" for New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center - as the first Colombian and second woman ever to compose for the ballet's orchestra.
