Mads Mathias
Mads Mathias performs at Postgaarden in Klampenborg.
Mads Mathias (born Juul Johansson, 1981, Silkeborg) is a Danish jazz singer, saxophonist and songwriter widely regarded as Denmark's leading male jazz vocalist. He works in the crooner tradition - Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Tony Bennett are touchstones - but writes his own material and brings a distinctly Nordic sensibility to the genre. His career spans two sold-out UK tours, performances at the Royal Albert Hall and the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing, and awards including the Leo Mathisen Prize and the Svend Asmussen Prize. A car accident at 17 cost him three fingers and pushed him toward singing; today he does both.
Mads Mathias released his third studio album Just The Way You Are on Mingus Records on August 14, 2026 - the first time he exclusively interprets classic jazz standards.
The British music media Marlbank reviewed Just The Way You Are and described the album as the third studio album by the Danish jazz singer, with Free Falling (2012) and I'm All Ears (2021) as the previous releases.
Mads Mathias returns to London for the first time since 2018 with a concert at PizzaExpress Live Soho on October 3, 2026.
