Los Cubraz - Cuban Salsa
Los Cubraz brings an evening of Cuban salsa and son to Hornbæk Jazzklub, featuring classics and original pieces with stories about the music and its cultural roots.
Maria Carelse is a self-taught Danish saxophonist who has been a fixture of the country's world music scene for more than three decades. She plays tenor saxophone and sings backing vocals in the Danish-Cuban orchestra Los Cubraz, which she founded in 2012 together with her husband, bassist Niels Prins. Over the years she has also performed with Brazilian ensembles such as Vida and Agora Brazil and the salsa orchestra Los Rumberos, and in the 1990s she led the twelve-piece orchestra Salsa Loca.
Los Cubraz performed at the dance festival Salsa Jam at Kulturhuset Islands Brygge in Copenhagen.
The orchestra gave a concert with a social dining concept at Støberihallen in Hillerød.
Throughout 2025, Los Cubraz has toured widely in Denmark, including at Copenhagen Jazz Festival, in Roskilde and in Holbæk.
The band held a summer festival in Aarhus in June 2025.
