Mille Rode is secretary general of Dansk PEN, the Danish centre of PEN International, which campaigns for freedom of expression and the rights of writers worldwide. She edited the Danish translation of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi's book White Torture and regularly contributes to public debate on censorship and the conditions facing persecuted authors. She has also written a teaching book on China, now in its third edition.
Dansk PEN led the nationwide campaign #ForbiddenBooks in October 2025, which brought together more than 100 actors - libraries, schools and cultural centers - around censorship and book bans.
Dansk PEN's president Mads Julius Elf was elected to the board of PEN International at PEN International's congress in Kraków in September 2025 as the first Dane.
Mille Rode participated at BogForum in November 2024 as a representative for Dansk PEN with, among other things, a presentation of Hvid Tortur.
