September Ball with Præst Vinther Duo
A September dance evening featuring Præst Vinther Duo, who perform Danish folk music from West Zealand and Vejle. Organized by Aalborg Danse and Spillemandslaug.
Præst Vinther Duo is a Danish folk music duo formed by clarinettist Anja Præst Mikkelsen and accordionist Jesper Vinther, both conservatory-trained musicians and long-standing members of the acclaimed ensemble Phønix. Anja, from Zealand, holds the title of rigsspillemand in the tradition of Gunnar Jensen from Skælskør, while Jesper grew up in Vejle surrounded by folk dance from an early age. Their repertoire draws on Danish fiddle music - especially from West Zealand and the Vejle area - played with the close, intuitive rapport they have built over years of collaboration.
Phønix, which both duo members are part of, performs at Nordic Folk Festival 2025.
Phønix releases the album 'Nådelands Ø', based on more than 400 historical phonograph waltz recordings from the Danish Folklore Collection gathered 1907-1947.
Anja Præst Mikkelsen is awarded the title of national musician in the tradition following Gunnar Jensen from Skælskør.
