About

Reinhold Friedl is a German pianist and composer, born in 1964 in Baden-Baden, best known for his radical approach to the piano - extended techniques, inside-the-piano playing, and the full physical range of the instrument. In 1997 he founded the Berlin-based ensemble zeitkratzer, which he still directs, and which has collaborated with Lou Reed, Keiji Haino, Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth) and others. He holds a PhD from Goldsmiths University London on the electronic music of Iannis Xenakis, and has received commissions from the BBC, Wiener Festwochen and Berliner Festspiele, among others.
