About

Runrig were a Scottish Celtic rock band from the Isle of Skye, founded in 1973 by brothers Rory and Calum MacDonald. They built a devoted following across Europe by fusing Gaelic folk traditions with anthemic rock, singing in both Scottish Gaelic and English. Albums such as The Cutter and the Clan (1987) and Amazing Things (1993) reached the UK Albums Chart top five, and their 1995 single 'An Ubhal as Àirde' became the first Scottish Gaelic song to chart on the UK Singles Chart. After 45 years together, they played two farewell concerts in Stirling in 2018 before a combined crowd of 50,000.
