About

Samba Touré is a Malian guitarist and singer born in 1968 in the Timbuktu region, who toured with the legendary Ali Farka Touré in 1997-98 before forging his own path. He blends Songhoy blues, traditional West African rhythms and contemporary rock influences into a style he calls simply "contemporary music from Mali". Since 2013 he has released on the German world music label Glitterbeat Records, and The Wire has described him as "the most prominent of Ali Farka Touré's musical heirs". His lyrics focus on ordinary Malian life - workers, neighbours and community - rather than rulers or ancestors.
