SIGURDÍS - Concert at Nordatlantens Brygge
Icelandic composer and pianist Sigurdís Tryggvadóttir presents her debut album at Nordatlantens Brygge, blending jazz, classical piano and Icelandic folk music.
Sigurdís Sandra Tryggvadóttir (born 1993) is an Icelandic composer, pianist and vocalist who grew up in Ártúnir in the Blöndudalur valley of northwest Iceland and has been based in Denmark since 2017. She holds a master's degree in jazz piano and composition from the Syddansk Musikkonservatorium in Odense. Her music - described as minimalist and melancholic, with clear melodic lines and a distinctly Nordic character - draws on her rural upbringing and on the poetry of her great-great-uncle Jónas Tryggvason (1916-1983), whose songs she weaves into her own compositions.
