Christmas in Sokkelund
Sokkelund Sangkor and the jazz duo Mads Granum and Thomas Fonnesbæk perform a Christmas concert blending Bach chorales, Danish hymns, and jazzy Christmas arrangements built around Luke's Christmas Gospel.
Sokkelund Sangkor is a Danish chamber choir founded in 1984 by conductor Morten Schuldt-Jensen, who continues to lead the ensemble. Since its inception the choir has held a firm place among Denmark's top choral ensembles, performing a wide repertoire - from Baroque oratorio to jazz-inflected a cappella - at churches and festivals in Denmark and abroad. Its prizes include first place in the European Broadcasting Union's International Chamber Choir Contest (1986), the Holmboe Prize (2001) and the Copenhagen County Cultural Award (1993). The choir has recorded for Dacapo Records and appeared in numerous radio and television broadcasts.
Sokkelund Sangkor performed in April 2025 a passion program in Skovvejskirken in Ballerup with works by Poulenc, Bach, Mendelssohn, Reger and La Cour.
In connection with the 40th anniversary in 2024, the choir performed for the first time Bach's Magnificat together with the first three cantatas of the Christmas Oratorio - with the Leipzig Chamber Orchestra and four international soloists.
