J.S. Bach: Magnificat and Christmas Oratorio with Sokkelund Sangkor

Sokkelund Sangkor performs Bach's "Magnificat" together with the Christmas Oratorio, cantatas 1-3, with the Leipzig Chamber Orchestra and soloists (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) under the direction of Morten Schuldt-Jensen.

This combination of the two works was first performed in 2024 for the choir's 40th anniversary and is now being repeated. The tradition of alternating between Bach's Christmas Oratorio and Handel's Messiah dates back to 2011, when the choir broke with an even older practice.

A regular feature of these Christmas concerts is the introduction, where the conductor - with help from soloists, choir and orchestra - explains and illustrates selected parts of the music: a theme, a musical device or a theological point. The introduction begins one hour before the concert and lasts approximately 30 minutes. Doors open 1.5 hours before the concert starts, and you can arrive during the introduction.
