The group blends hip-hop with funk, reggae, soul, jazz and rock, and is known for socially and politically engaged lyrics centered on community, love and optimism. Today the act usually performs as Michael Franti & Spearhead and has built a three-decade reputation as one of the genre's most energetic live bands.
