Belphegor are an Austrian black/death metal band from Salzburg, founded in 1991 as Betrayer and renamed in 1993. Led by guitarist and vocalist Helmuth Lehner, they have released twelve studio albums since their 1995 debut 'The Last Supper', forging a sound that fuses death metal's precision with the ritualistic darkness of black metal. In 2023 they received the Amadeus Austrian Music Award in the Hard & Heavy category - a rare moment of formal recognition for a band that has long operated far outside the mainstream.
Belphegor has completed work on their 13th studio album, which is planned for release in 2027 via Reigning Phoenix Music.
Belphegor announced 'Praise The Beast' European Tour 2026 with Krisiun and Asagraum as support - the tour runs from Essen on September 29 to London on October 18.
The band released the single 'Scarlet Beast - Leviathan' in February 2026 as the second preview of the upcoming album.
Belphegor released the single 'Sanctus Diaboli Confidimus' - their first release under the newly concluded agreement with Reigning Phoenix Music.
Belphegor received the Amadeus Austrian Music Award in the Hard & Heavy category in recognition of the album 'The Devils' (2022).
