The Gathering are a Dutch rock band from Oss, founded in 1989 by brothers René and Hans Rutten. They began as an atmospheric doom metal act but found their signature voice with the 1995 album *Mandylion* and singer Anneke van Giersbergen, after which their sound gradually shifted toward shoegaze, post-rock and trip-hop. Over more than three decades they have built a devoted international following through a style that resists easy categorisation.
The Gathering announced a final and exclusive concert with Anneke van Giersbergen at AFAS Live in Amsterdam on January 16, 2027.
Norwegian singer Silje Wergeland left The Gathering on December 28, 2025 after 16 years in the band.
Five sold-out anniversary concerts with the classic Mandylion line-up - including Anneke van Giersbergen - took place at Doornroosje in Nijmegen from August 27 to 31, 2025.
In December 2024, the band announced a worldwide Mandylion 30-year anniversary tour for 2026 with Anneke van Giersbergen.
The Gathering released Beautiful Distortion on April 29, 2022 - the band's first studio album in over nine years and their first with original bassist Hugo Prinsen Geerligs since 2003.
