The Rebel is the stage name of British musician Benedict Roger Wallers, best known as the frontman and guitarist of the Scottish punk band Country Teasers, which he founded in Scotland in the mid-1990s. As a solo artist he has been releasing lo-fi records under The Rebel name since the late 1980s, drawing on garage rock, country and experimental forms, with lyrics built around sharp, ironic satire. The name is a homage to the 1961 Tony Hancock film of the same title. Wallers self-records and hand-distributes most of his output, deliberately keeping his distance from the commercial music industry.
