Thomas Bay is a Danish-Swedish musician, conductor, and theatre director who has led Fredericia Musicalteater since December 2022. Trained at the Danish National Musical Academy and holding a Master's from Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London, he has worked as a soloist, pianist, conductor, and producer across Scandinavia and England. Under his leadership, Fredericia Musicalteater secured permanent state funding as one of Denmark's ten §5 theatres from January 2025.
Fredericia Musicalteater presented the 2026/2027 season with, among other things, the world premiere of the pirate musical FANG VINDEN (October 2026) and the European premiere of the children's musical Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
FANG VINDEN was announced as an international development collaboration with the award-winning American musical creator duo Elliott & Larsen with premiere on 1 October 2026.
Fredericia Musicalteater received from 1 January 2025 a permanent place on the state budget with an annual state grant of 9.8 million kr. as a §5-theatre.
A new board was appointed for Fredericia Musicalteater in connection with the theatre's new status as a §5-theatre under the Ministry of Culture.
Thomas Bay took office as theatre director for Fredericia Musicalteater in December 2022 and thus returned to the city where he made his debut in 2006.
