Thomas Buttenschøn was born on 22 March 1985 in Zambia and grew up in Gylling, near Odder in Jutland. He broke through in 2006 with the single and album "Fantastiske Mandag", which reached the Danish top 12, establishing him as one of Denmark's most personal singer-songwriters, blending jazz, pop and blues. Born HIV-positive and orphaned by AIDS as a child, he has channelled those experiences into his music and two autobiographical books: "I begyndelsen var døden" (2020) and "Nu skriger jeg i stilhed" (2025).
Buttenschøn releases in 2026 a series of new singles and the EP "paris", including "goes to the bar for a beer" and "I have money for a taxi".
On 22 September 2025, Buttenschøn's second autobiographical book, "Nu skriger jeg i stilhed", was released, about his upbringing as a brown, HIV-positive and orphaned person in a Jutland provincial town.
Buttenschøn and Jonas Rasmussen go on an autumn tour as the duo "Mænd På Midten" under the name "Halvvejs Hjem" and release a joint album with new songs in this connection.
Buttenschøn turns 40 on 22 March 2025 and marks the anniversary with new releases and a spring tour around the country.
In 2023, Buttenschøn released the album "starter med en afsked", which concludes an album trilogy about loss and pain.
