Intimate Concert with Young Flowers
Young Flowers, pioneers of progressive rock in Denmark, revive their signature sound of high-volume amplification and extended guitar solos at Metronomen.
Young Flowers were a psychedelic rock trio formed in Copenhagen in the summer of 1967 by Peter Ingemann (bass and vocals), drummer Ken Gudman and - from their second release onwards - guitarist Peer Frost. Modelling their sound on Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience, they set a new technical benchmark for Danish rock and were among the first to use Danish-language lyrics in a progressive rock context. Their two albums, Blomsterpistolen (1968) and No. 2 (1969), plus a soundtrack contribution to Jens Jørgen Thorsen's film Quiet Days in Clichy, cemented their place in Danish rock history; in 1969 they became the first Danish rock band to tour North America. After disbanding in 1970, Peer Frost joined Savage Rose and Ken Gudman - who died in 2003 - played with Culpeper's Orchard, among others; Ingemann and Frost have kept the band alive since a 2012 reunion.
Peter Ingemann, the band's bassist and co-founder, turned 80 in November 2023 - celebrated with an article and six decades of photos on Gaffa.
Gaffa mentioned the release of Den Blå Løjtnant, which brings previously unreleased Young Flowers recordings to light.
Young Flowers Reunion recorded in autumn 2022 four primarily newly written songs at Media Sound Studio in Copenhagen with Hans Fagt on drums.
A Danish rock classic - presumably one of the two Young Flowers albums - was reissued and celebrated with a release concert.
Turn It Over Records reissued the band's debut album Blomsterpistolen, making it accessible to a new generation.
