Lecture at Lejre Museum: Lejre Beyond the Palisade - New Results from Hidden Landscapes of the Past

What lies hidden in the soil around the famous royal halls of Lejre? Over the past year, the National Museum of Denmark, the Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research, and ROMU have worked to answer this question through the project The Royal Seat of Lejre - Beyond the Palisade. The goal is to map the landscape outside the great palisade that surrounded Lejre's halls, and thereby gain new knowledge about one of Denmark's most important power centres in the Late Iron Age and Viking period.

The investigations have been conducted using ground-penetrating radar and magnetometry - two geophysical methods that can reveal hidden structures, ditches and post holes beneath the soil surface without breaking ground. The evening's lecturer is archaeologist and researcher Arne Abel Stamnes, who is affiliated with the project and has many years of experience with archaeological geophysical investigations. He will present results from several Danish sites and may also unveil the latest findings from the ongoing investigations in Lejre.

The lecture takes place on 12 November 2026 from 19:00 to 21:00 at Lejre Museum, Orehøjvej 4B, 4320 Lejre. Doors open from 18:30. Admission is 90 kr. (+ booking fee). Members of the Lejre Museum Association have free admission but must register in advance.
