Body, Vulnerabilities and New Norms — Vartov, Copenhagen

What happens when the body, energy and everyday life don't fit the ideal of the independent, efficient and capable person? And how do our ideas about normality shape our understanding of value, community and the good life?

In this lecture, Olivia Dahl, postdoctoral researcher at the University of Copenhagen, presents her PhD project "From Outsider to Crip". The project is based on interviews, focus groups and collective poetry, and explores how people with disabilities navigate contemporary norms of normality, capability and the good life.

The lecture invites reflection on the ideals that characterize our society, what demands they place on us - and the possibility of imagining more 'crip' futures.
