Afternoon Lecture - Bodil Lodbjerg, Cand. theol. Ph.D. and Lecturer at Diakonhøjskolen

This lecture explores the homes and institutions established in the late 19th century that played a central role in the development of social work in Denmark. Many were led by women of both commitment and determination - and it is their contribution that Bodil Lodbjerg brings into focus.

We encounter, among others, deaconess Marie Johanne, who founded several institutions in Aarhus, and pastor's wife Ellen Schepelern, who in 1906 established Kvindehjælpen. The lecture shows how "the home" evolved into a social institution, and portrays the women who laid the foundation for the welfare state - an important but often overlooked part of Danish history.
