Flat Bop
Walthers Musikcafé, Skanderborg · 131 kr. · ≈ 18 €
Flat Bop works by having one band member propose a musical idea, which the group then develops collaboratively. This approach has created an ambitious and creative playground that has earned the band performances at major festivals in recent years, including Copenhagen Jazz Festival (La Fontaine in 2025), Esbjerg Jazz Festival, and Kilden Concert Hall in Kristiansand.
The music is fully rearranged and challenges the traditional verse-chorus structure - form becomes part of the song's story, carried by melodies you'll often find yourself humming afterwards. The repertoire spans songs about an old car (which, spoiler alert, breaks down), food and drink, parties, sleeping bags, and major influences like Charles Mingus and Dr. Lonnie Smith.
The sound resists easy categorization: there are funky elements, jazzy touches, rock and blues, but the dominant flavour is something groovy and distinctly Flat Bop. Each member contributes ideas, and the result is mixed together and served fresh every time.
