Absalon's Secret

Twelve-year-old Cecilie is clever, brave, and passionate about archaeology. She lives with her family on top of a department store where her father is the director. Her younger sister Ida has a heart condition that doctors cannot cure. When the department store opens its Christmas exhibition featuring archaeological finds from an excavation beneath the building - discoveries dating back to Bishop Absalon and the founding of Copenhagen - Cecilie discovers that a well-preserved secret from the past is hidden there. Could the myth conceal a miracle that can save Ida? During her investigation, she meets Hubert, a boy who lives in the department store's basement and knows something about the secret.

Absalon's Secret is Aarhus Theatre's stage adaptation of DR's Christmas calendar - a tradition the theatre has of transforming 24 TV episodes into a single production. This happened with The Pact in 2019 and Christmas Fever in 2023, and the two productions have been seen by nearly 100,000 people at Aarhus Theatre.

Line Mørkeby dramatizes Maya Ilsøe's TV story, and Line Paulsen directs - she was behind both previous productions. Set design and costumes are by Franciska Zahle, choreography by Sofie Akerø. Marie Boda plays Cecilie and Kevan Nirwan Soliman plays Hubert. The production includes the song "I Dreamed a Little Dream".
