Hamlet

Hamlet returns home to Denmark to bury his father, the king - only to discover that his uncle Claudius has seized the throne and married his mother, Queen Gertrude. When his father's ghost reveals that Claudius murdered him, Hamlet is called to avenge the crime. But doubt consumes him, and as his love for young Ophelia crumbles, he spirals deeper into darkness.

Shakespeare's tragedy remains his most performed work and is still regarded, over 400 years later, as one of the great existential dramas of world literature - about passion and intrigue, love and betrayal, friendship and madness. About what is up and down, right and wrong, true and false. Hamlet is the young man who insists on his truth and stands alone in a society where everything has become play, strategy, and spin.

Directed by Norwegian Peer Perez Øian with music by Norwegian Gaute Tønder - the two previously collaborated on "Faith, Hope & Love" and the Reumert-nominated "Ascent to Paradise" at Aarhus Teater. Music plays a central role again: everyone around Hamlet plays and sings in a band he is not invited to join. Emil Prenter, known from leading roles in "Erasmus Montanus" and Dostoevsky's "The Idiot", carries the title role. In David Gehrt's set design, Jacob Madsen Kvols appears as Claudius, Nanna Bøttcher as Queen Gertrude, Thorbjørn Hedegaard as Laertes, Clara Sophia Phillipson as Ophelia, and Christian Hetland as Polonius.
