Masterclass: Ribera del Duero — Salen, Copenhagen

Ribera del Duero lies on a high plateau along the Duero River, about two hours' drive north of Madrid. The vineyards are typically situated at 750-850 metres elevation - some reaching up to 1100 metres - which ensures cool nights even during the warmest days. This keeps the wines free from the stewed-fruit character found in other hot wine regions.

The region's dominant grape is Tempranillo, here called Tinto Fino or Tinta del Pais. Ribera del Duero is home to over 300 wineries, and wine production can be traced back more than 2500 years. Both classical and more modern approaches are represented in the region today.

At the masterclass you will taste eight wines from the area and discover your favourite among the classical and modern styles. The lecturer is Bonnie Reinwald - sommelier, certified Wine Educator from Ribera del Duero and ambassador for the region on the Danish market. She holds a DipWSET, teaches at the Wine Academy and at WSET Level 3 courses in Denmark, sits on the board of the Danish Sommelier Association and is the founder of SommThing. She is also a freelance wine writer for DinVinGuide and an experienced judge at competitions including Concours Mondial, Falstaff and Danish Wine Challenge. She has over 20 years of experience in the restaurant industry as a restaurant manager and sommelier.

The masterclass takes place on Saturday 19 September at 16:00-17:30 in Salen, JP/Politikens Hus, Vestergade 28-30, 1552 Copenhagen V - just around the corner from Pressen, where the Spanish & Portuguese Wine Festival is held the same day. The price is 300 kr. excluding booking fee, and the ticket also gives access to the Spanish & Portuguese Wine Festival at 14:00-16:30 or 17:30-20:00. If you have already purchased a festival ticket, you can write to billet@eb.dk and they will find a solution.
