Functional Disorders - Brain and Body in Alarm Mode — Hovedbiblioteket, Aarhus

Functional disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome cause real and often disabling symptoms - yet they cannot be detected through blood tests or scans and do not fit traditional medical explanations. This creates doubt, misunderstandings, and stigma.

Dr. Cecilia Pihl Jespersen, a physician and PhD student at Aarhus University, and patient representative Sandie Lykkehus discuss what functional disorders are and how they are experienced from within: causes, symptoms, treatment, and the connection to an oversensitive alarm system in the brain and body. Science journalist Line Friis Frederiksen moderates the conversation.

The event is part of Folkeuniversitetet's knowledge festival Hearts & Minds and takes place in the Rampen room at Hovedbiblioteket in Aarhus.
