Lykke's Reading Club: Keld Conradsen - 'Stemte s'er' — Køge Bibliotek, Køge

Lykke Hjorth, a former librarian and volunteer coordinator of the reading club, leads discussions on literature from around the world. The club welcomes everyone interested in sharing their reading experiences.

This session focuses on Keld Conradsen's novel 'Stemte s'er'. The narrator returns to his hometown for his mother's funeral and discovers a diary from her youth in East Prussia. He knows she fled Germany in 1944 and despised everything German - but she never revealed what actually happened. The diary's disturbing contents become the starting point for the son's investigation into his mother's life in Denmark, where she tried to come to terms with her past. The novel explores the relationship between mother and son and what it means to be a refugee in Denmark.

This autumn's theme is 'Spiritual Preparedness': what do we do when the world changes rapidly and everything seems chaotic? The club reads and discusses novels that offer spiritual and cultural resilience and strength.

The meeting takes place in Folkelab. If you are registered, you can pick up the book from November 6 during staffed opening hours.
