The Most Wretched Crew - A Story of the Colonists in Greenland 1728-1731

In 1728-1731, King Frederik IV sent an expedition to Greenland with orders to build colonies, erect a fort, and establish a European settlement. Over 100 men and women from all walks of society travelled north - officers, sailors, craftsmen, and officials, but also former convicts who had been forced into marriage as part of the preparations. Their task: to multiply and populate a new colony.

This lecture on this unusual chapter in Danish-Greenlandic history is held by the book's three authors: Christian Sune Pedersen, research director for Modern Times and World Cultures at the National Museum of Denmark, Emil Andersen, PhD fellow at the National Museum of Denmark, and Rasmus Voss, journalist and museum inspector at the National Museum of Denmark.
