Thomas Mann's monumental novel 'The Magic Mountain' (1924) presents a sharp portrait of the spiritual and ideological conflicts in Europe in the years leading up to 1914. The lecture focuses on the novel's intense debates about values, the threat of nihilism, and the dream of a new vision of humanity - and discusses why the novel feels urgently relevant again today.

The speaker is Morten Dyssel, lecturer in German and chairman of the Danish Thomas Mann Society.

The event is a collaboration between Folkeuniversitetet and Fredensborg Libraries.
