Papaya's 40th Anniversary Concert
Kulturhuset Indre By, Copenhagen · 50–100 kr. · ≈ 7–13 €
Papaya is a Danish choir that sings South African songs, and this year they celebrate 40 years on stage. The concert features songs from the choir's entire history as well as new pieces from their recent trip to South Africa in 2024, with dance, images, and stories woven throughout. The repertoire ranges from wedding songs and Zulu war songs to pieces about courage, strength, and community across generations. The choir emphasizes understanding the origins and original context of the songs, so it's not just music but also stories about culture and togetherness that are shared. Doors open at 15:30.
Before the concert, Papaya holds a free workshop where participants learn a South African song that the choir brought home from South Africa in 2024. The workshop is open to all ages and levels and takes place from 13:00 to 14:00 at Literaturhaus, Møllegade 7, 2200 København N.
Registration for the workshop should be sent to kontakt@signerasmussen.dk - registration must be completed by 19 September.
