Skumringstime
Glostrup Bibliotek, Glostrup · free
Over 2,000 libraries and cultural venues across the Nordic region and the Baltic countries gather at 7 p.m. for Skumringstime - an evening of shared Nordic storytelling read aloud.
This year's book is the Swedish novel "De vil drukne i deres mødres tårer" (They Will Drown in Their Mothers' Tears) by Johannes Anyuru, translated into Danish by Birgitte Steffen Nielsen. The novel is a speculative story about what could happen to a democratic society like Sweden if democratic values are not defended. During a lecture by a controversial cartoonist, a bookshop is attacked in a terrorist act filmed and streamed by a young girl. She is later admitted to a forensic psychiatric clinic, where she seeks out an author and shares her story - a narrative from a fractured future Sweden. The novel explores themes of mistrust and exclusion, but also hope, freedom, and the power of language.
After the reading, there will be wine, snacks, and discussion about the text and shared Nordic values. The event is free and requires no advance booking - simply come to the Knowledge Zone at Glostrup Library. Arranged in collaboration with Foreningen Norden.
