Make Apple Cider from Your Own Apples - Skraldival
Silkeborg Bibliotek, Silkeborg
Do you have apple trees in your garden? Bring your harvest to Bindslevs Plads, where SorringMOST will press the juice out for you. Even bruised, spotted, or fallen apples can be used - they just can't be rotten.
Pack the apples the day before in bags, crates, or a trailer. Handle them carefully to avoid bruising, and check that they are clean and free of insects. If you have more than 100 kg, send an SMS to SorringMOST on 81196571 in advance. Wear practical clothes and shoes you don't mind getting wet - you'll be part of the pressing process itself.
The apples are washed, sorted, and pressed, and the juice is filled into 3-litre bags with a tap after pasteurization. The ratio is roughly 2.5 kg apples per litre of juice. Pasteurized juice costs 10 kr. per litre plus 5 kr. per bag; unpasteurized juice without heat treatment costs 5 kr. per litre. You can also bring your own bottles or other containers. Once opened, juice keeps for about three months.
Everyone who delivers apples automatically becomes a member of SorringMOST, which also lends out apple-picking tools - contact the association if you need equipment. The event is part of Skraldival, an annual festival in week 38 about waste reduction and reuse, organized by Silkeborg Municipality, Silkeborg Utilities, and Silkeborg Libraries.
