Behind the Foreign Legion

Simon Nielsen shares his five years in the French Foreign Legion - from military service in Denmark and a reconnaissance unit on Bornholm through a prison cell to his time as a combat diver and elite soldier in Corsica.

He brings home experiences from a brutal recruit period marked by violence, missions against Islamists in Africa, and gold prospecting in the Amazon - but also five years of brotherhood and personal transformation. Nielsen is a veteran, lecturer, and author of the biography "Legionnaire: Five Years in the Foreign Legion", and currently works as a firefighter in the Special Services at Copenhagen Emergency Management.

The lecture takes place in the Hall at Roskilde Library. The venue is accessible for wheelchair users, walkers, and prams, and people with hearing impairments are welcome to bring their own assistive devices.
